1. Lauterbrunnen Valley and Jungfrau

The Lauterbrunnen Valley contains some of the most breathtaking views of Switzerland and the pretty villages of Lauterbrunnen, Wengen, Mürren, Gimmelwald, Stechelberg, and Isenfluh. The Jungfrau summit, one of the main summits of the Bernese Alps, dominates the views.

2. The Matterhorn

The Matterhorn is one of the world’s most iconic mountains and has become an emblem of the Alps. Although reaching the summit is really only for experienced mountaineers, there are over 400 kilometres of hiking trails, footpaths and walks nearby. It can be seen and accessed from the town of Zermatt.

3. Interlaken

Interlaken is the gateway to many mountains and lakes, including the Lauterbrunnen Valley. The town itself isn’t much to write home about, but it is popular base with backpackers, and has a wide range of outdoor activities nearby, such as skiing, sledging, ice-skating, paragliding, hang gliding, bungee jumping, canyoning, sailing, river rafting and rock climbing.

4. Zurich

Zurich is the largest city in Switzerland and appeals to culture lovers with many museums and art galleries throughout the city. Zurich is a very pretty city, with a great nightlife, if you can afford it – it is one of the most expensive cities in the world.

5. Lake Lucerne

Known as ‘the heart of Switzerland’, Lake Lucerne provides yet more stunning natural beauty. Activities on the lake in the summer are very popular and Lucerne itself is one of the world’s prettiest cities.

6. Bern

Bern is a picturesque medieval city that sits on a peninsula formed by the meandering turns of the river Aare. The old town is arguably the best place to visit and is UNESCO World Heritage Listed.

7. Albula / Bernina Railway

You don’t have to be a train enthusiast to appreciate the Albula / Bernina Railway. The line is one of the most scenic in the world cutting across and through some of Switzerland’s most awe-inspiring landscapes, featuring many tunnels, galleries, viaducts and bridges.

8. Geneva

Another Swiss city that is surrounded by an idyllic landscape. Geneva is a cosmopolitan city and major centre of international diplomacy. The Old Town is major and picturesque attraction, with cobblestoned, narrow and meandering streets.

9. Rhône Glacier

The Rhône Glacier is the source of the river Rhône and one of the major contributors to Lake Geneva. The landowners have carved tunnels inside the glacier large enough to walk through. The Glacier has been dramatically retreating over the past 150 years, so visit soon.

10. Montreux

Chillon Castle, Montreux.

Montreux is located on Lake Geneva at the foot of the Alps. The main attractions are the scenic Château de Chillon, the hiker’s paradise of Hauts de Montreux and the beautiful Corniche Lavaux vineyards.
